Interview

Do you surf?

For 20+ years now.

Favorite thing about shooting?

It makes me be present in the moment, and the never ending struggle to create the next best image is alluring.

Least favorite thing about shooting?

I don’t like missing out on the best surf conditions, lineup, or missing a shot for that matter; I’m a perfectionist so it’s frustrating at times but that’s what makes it challenging.

Shooting set-up?

I’m shooting with a Nikon D7200 and Aquatech Water Housing; I interchange between my Nikon 35, 50, 85mm 1.8g, Nikon 70-200mm VRII f2.8, and my wide angle is a Tokina 11-20 f2.8, my flash work is with the SB-900 and Strike 910 Flash housing.

How can the surf community help you?

By continuing to show interest in surf photography; it has vastly changed with the digital world but I still believe there are truly great surf photographs being made to this day.

Best day ever?

February 26th 2015 at my hometown break is probably the most memorable day I have shooting; it was oil slick glass, clear blue water, shallow sand, one of the most incredible sunrises I’ve witnessed to date, and nonstop swell all morning with just my camera and I.

Looking forward to…

Cold fronts, and cleaner water hopefully soon.

Words of Wisdom?

“Practice makes perfect” – Keep shooting, just like anything else the more you practice the better you get; I’ve noticed such a dramatic uptick in the quality of my images as the years go by; I’ve definitely come a long way since I first started shooting seriously.

Best travel experience?

Spearfishing every year in the Bahamas is always up there on my list…

Surf photography is…

subjective, artistic, timeless, and beautiful.

Shout outs?

My family for their continual support.
