Interview

Do you surf?

Yessir!

Favorite thing about shooting?

If I had to narrow it down to one thing, it would have to be the overall experience of floating out there and shooting!
The adrenaline of being out on big days paired with all the stoke surfers bring to the water is what keeps bringing me back.

How did you learn to shoot surf photography?

I would come home pretty much empty handed all the time early on, but I would also learn something new every session. Definitely involved a lot of trial and error, just had to keep going back out there.

Shooting set-up?

In the water, I use a GoPro Hero 5 inside of a 6in. Telesin Dome Port with a trigger shutter release.
On the beach I use a Canon AE-1 SLR. My two main lenses are a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 and a Telephoto 100-200mm f5.6.
All the Drone footage is done using a DJI Phantom 3.

How can the surf community help you?

Continuing the stoke! I’ll see you out there when it’s firing.

Best day ever?

Any day the surf’s barreling and the water’s above 65° haha.

Looking forward to…

Winter swells and glassy dawn patrols.

Words of Wisdom?

Skip the Surfline check before you paddle out every now again! You’ll be glad you went anyway.

Best travel experience?

Visiting friends in Euskal Herria this past summer. Being able to see Mundaka in person was amazing!

Surf photography is…

my favorite reason for getting up at 5 am haha.

Shout outs?

My family for inspiring my passion of the Ocean. Lyle McGraw (@lylemcgraw) for putting me on to photography, and Grant Hoyt for all the videography help. To all my friends, thank you for the continued hype and support!!
