Beach Reopening Proposal by MB Commissioner Arriola

Public Spaces are Open- But not Beaches.

On April 29th, Miami Dade County opened parks, marinas, and golf courses for limited public use. Beaches were not part of the reopening. Miami Beach Commissioner Ricky Arriola has made a proposal requesting limited access to our beaches.

What’s the Proposed Reopening Plan?

  • Reopen our public beach daily from 6AM to 10AM & from 5PM to 8PM.
  • Allow public beach clean-ups and water quality testing to occur at any time of day (subject to volunteer groups registering with the City of Miami Beach, so we can ensure these gatherings adhere to CDC guidelines.)

The government needs input to move forward…

In order to pass this resolution, Commissioner Arriola needs the support from Mayor Gelber and the rest of the City Commission.

Want to support the reopening plan?

The City of Miami Beach will accept public input to be included in the public record until 5pm on April 30.

Let his colleagues know that you support the reopening of our public beach by emailing our City Clerk ([email protected]), who will enter your position into the public record and forward your emails to the entire Mayor and Commission office. You may also directly email your elected officials.

Beach Reopening Resolution (R7D) |Commission Meeting May 1, 2020

Hello,

I am writing to support the beach reopening resolution sponsored by Commissioner Arriola. It is item R7D for the May 1, 2020 Commission Meeting.

It is my belief that a phased approach to opening our beaches is prudent. Safe access to our resources is possible. Commissioner Arriola’s resolution provides the first of the necessary incremental steps for us to fully return access.

Sincerely,

Beach Reopening Resolution (R7D)

A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY MAYOR CARLOS GIMENEZ TO: (1) RE-OPEN PUBLIC BEACHES WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH FROM 6:00 A.M.
